SONY ERICSSON XPERIA X10 MINI

My wife bought a Hobbit device, namely SE Xperia X10 Mini. Is that a hand phone? Yes, it is an Android based hand phone sizing around 8cm x 5cm, but extraordinarily thick at 1.6 cm. It is baby-like with minimal button, but underneath its 2.5” TFT capacitive touch screen slides out a keypad. Sony Ericsson is cramping their X10 into this Hobbit version. It just happened that my wife needs a new hand phone that is capable of threaded messaging, so she can track all her niqaab and tudung orders from her customers and even ramblings from her acquaintances. She also needs a hand phone that has almost unlimited entries and fields, so she doesn’t need to clear up spaces for additional text message to get in, like the one she’s having now… the Alcatel OT355D. Eventually we walked in a Sony Ericsson outlet in AEON Klang and we are fixated on the Xperia X10 mini and the X8. A few dings and dongs later, we went home with this Hobbit hand phone. It is a original set so, she had paid a hefty price for it. The bigger X8 is priced around RM100 cheaper than the X10 mini. I'd wish I had do little homework before made the purchased. It came the charger, USB connector, headset and manuals... and oh, with also classy SE shopping bag. LOL
The Xperia X10 mini screen is nifty, pretty nice and clear, but it is too darn small for my eyes. I do not know about your eyes or the designers eyes on Sony Ericsson. The screen also boasts with a scratch-resistance surface… oh, I haven’t tried this yet (lol). It has a small internal memory of only 128MB. After installing Yahoo Messengers and Angry Bird Rio, we found that the hand phone started to crawl. Even with an additional 4GB card installed, I cannot find the option to place the installed applications into it. Since it is a touch screen hand phones, the buttons are kept to its minimal, only 3. We found no problem adapting ourselves to the interface.
The Wi-Fi is pretty good and straight forward. It took us no problem connecting this X10 mini to my wireless settings, unlike Blackberry Torch 9800.The Wi-Fi is indeed a working Wi-Fi. Sooner, I found out that this X10 mini is power hungry. We need to charge it almost daily, since the kids like the Rio too much. Changing the battery and microSD card is quite difficult. The back cover case wouldn’t pop off easily even with brute force. One needs to spread the fingers wide on the back cover and claw the back panel off.

On the right side of the Xperia X10 mini is the volume button, while the 3.5mm head set jack and mini USB are placed awkwardly at the bottom of the hand phone. The biggest setback was this Xperia X10 mini inability to make 3G calls. The salesgirl assured us that it can be done, by installing additional video call application from the App Market. There’s like hundreds of them, and those few we have tested, none is working. So we gave it up, since there is no use to us anyway for making video calls.
Ah, I think I want play Angry Bird Rio again…
